Cactus Drive-In Logo, 1957

Location:  1610 Yale SE, E side 1-2 blocks N of Gibson. Very close to Albuquerque International Sunport.
Open:  1947-19??
Capacity:  776
Owners:  Video Theatres (19??-19??); listed under "Albuquerque Theatres" in 1966 Yellow Pages

The location of the old Cactus Drive-In is now the home of the Loma Vista Cultural Center, but traces of the old theatre still remain. The site wasn't leveled for the new construction, so the distinctive bowl shape is still visible, as are the back two or three ramps of the old parking area.

The entrance ramp on Yale is still there too, and a cache of old plaster in the weeds near the entrace is probably where the screen tower stood before it was demolished (reportedly in 1983). We found a likely spot for the projection booth as well, but couldn't be 100% sure.

What you see on the satellite shot is basically what's there now. The Cactus was well-named -- there's still quite a bit of cactus growing in the undeveloped parts of the old lot, so watch your step!
